We’ve heard it said that if you don’t know where you want to be in 5 years, then you’re already there. It’s hard to effect change in your life if you are not sure who you want to be or where you want to be or what you want to do. And the funny thing is that change is the only constant thing we are guaranteed in our lives. And avoiding change is probably one of the most dangerous things we can do to ourselves as we progress through our lives. Avoiding it can also set a really bad example for those who rely on us in our lives.
The first step in Reinventing yourself is having some kind of big idea about the type of person you want to be. even if the goal isn’t completely clear, having a rough guideline will get you a lot farther than just settling for where you are at currently. it’s from this point that you can set a series of small goals for yourself to start moving forward. Picking a direction and going is a lot better for you than just remaining where you are. You are giving yourself permission to be a brand new person who has way more control over the outcome of their life than other people do.
Foster and encourage your thirst for more and better in your life. That doesn’t mean you should constantly be seeking ways to get more things in your life that aren’t meaningful. keep searching for the things that mean the most. These things should be the focus of every goal that you set for yourself. It’s also important to know when it is the right time to accept what you have and when is the right time to seek more. Everything becomes a very delicate balancing act so allow yourself the room to be okay with change and be open to the change coming in unexpected ways.
If you’re still absolutely unclear of where you need to start, try setting a goal to be more positive. that probably sounds very vague but determine what the goal means personally to you, and then find one little way you can achieve that goal. One small step you can take to travel in that direction and when you’ve made that step find another one. You may surprise yourself about where you end up and the type of person you become. Remember to take the steps one single day at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it takes at least 21 days to establish new habits and routines in your life. Be patient with yourself but be open to possibilities.
